LAURIE GARFIELD
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Business Economics. After graduation, I worked as a CPA for a Big 4 accounting firm (Deloitte and Touche) in San Jose for more than 10 years. During this time, I advanced to Senior Manager and worked with many different types of companies, including venture capital, software, high tech, insurance and others. In 2003, I quit working as a CPA when my husband got the opportunity to transfer to Basel, Switzerland.
We lived in Switzerland for about 18 months. There we learned a new culture and attempted to learn German (not very well though). We had the opportunity to travel around Europe, including visits to Munich, Barcelona, Zurich, Geneva, Florence, Pisa and many other small towns. One of our favorite trips was to Gruyere, Switzerland. We had the best fondue. In fact, that was a favorite dish to serve to guests when they would come for a visit. In February 2005, we moved back to San Jose and I decided to stay home with my children until they were a little bit older.
After a few nudges from my mom, I decided to get my Real Estate license in the Fall of 2007 and work with her. At first it was a tough decision to not go back to accounting, but I realized that I have always loved houses. In fact, whenever I see an “Open House” sign, I tell my husband “pull over!”. I think many years of experience in serving people in the accounting industry have prepared me to work with buyers and sellers. I understand saving money and spending money! I also truly enjoy meeting new people and working with them.
